My Kit

Camera Kit

I have been committed to Canon equipment from my early days of photography and have stuck with them mainly because of the investment in lenses. The earlier lenses I used for my film camera were able to be used for the new digital models. Having said that of course there was ultimately a need to upgrade the lenses to match the higher resolution of the camera sensor. I have made a commitment to purchase the Canon 'L' lenses which offer higher quality and precision, albeit at a cost. The list below is my current lineup of camera bodies, lenses and peripherals.

Software Kit

In the new digital age the use of software in your photo processing workflow is unavoidable. I actually like this as it now gives you complete control over your workflow from image capture to final processed print. Of course during the old days of film I could always blame the poor final photograph on the film processing lab but now I either take the credit or the criticism!

At the early days of my digital photography I made a decision to take RAW photos as it offered advantages in post-processing capabilities and the ability to retain the original data that was captured without any compression or other manipulation. This I believe to be a very good decision and in many situations have managed to salvage what would have been a disastrous photo had it been taken in jpeg format. In those days I was using a PC and utilizing a RAW conversion software. This result in a complex folder system of RAW files and processed files which was troublesome to manage and heavy of the disk space usage.

My move to the Apple platform a few years ago was spurred by their use of the Intel chip in their machines (knowing that I could always run my existing Windows applications if necessary). This move was to prove an excellent idea and with the use of Aperture to catalogue, manage and process my RAW files I optimized my workflow drastically. Within a few weeks I had removed the Windows partition on my Apple and found alternative post-processing solutions on the Mac platform for all of my needs.
